Communications Specialist

SUMMARY:

The Communications Specialist provides a critical role in discerning and relaying Manchester Bidwell Corporation’s message to various audiences through its digital presence, designing and distributing print materials, and managing tours of the corporation’s facilities. The Communication Specialist’s responsibilities include supporting and updating MBC and its affiliates’ social media channels and website presences, documenting official business events and activity through photography and videography, creating promotional materials (e.g. flyers) and designed business resources (e.g. letterhead, envelopes, business cards), and keeping publications up to design and content standards as set forth by the Director of Communications. Additional responsibilities include conducting occasional tours as well as other functions to promote and raise awareness of MBC’s mission and educational model.

This role will have a particular emphasis on the programming and needs of Bidwell Training Center and the Bidwell Urban Farm Shop (BUFS). This role will also contribute to the wider communications needs of MBC.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not strictly limited to, the following:
· Delivers key, consistent print and digital messaging, implementing and maintaining corporate and affiliate identities.
· Researches and creates communications for social media and manages related accounts and platforms for affiliates.
· Utilizes photography, video, and audio for MBC, BTC, and BUFS programmatic and institutional promotion.
· Attends relevant events, occasionally outside normal office hours, to capture media assets as needed.
· Utilizes graphic design software to create professional-grade print materials for both internal and external distribution.
· Meets regularly with BTC and BUFS staff and leadership to define priorities and create production plans for print and digital assets.
· Contributes written content for MBC newsletters, reports, and corporate messaging with emphasis on BTC programming.
· Conducts tours of MBC facilities and programs as needed.
· Exhibits understanding and internalization of company values: influence, respect, listen, shape and embrace.
· Performs other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

There are no supervisory responsibilities associated with this position. 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

· Degree in marketing, journalism, communications, or business, or 2 years related experience in marketing and public relations.
· Mac and PC computer skills.
· Capacity to write for multiple audiences and analyze/summarize data from diverse sources.
· Demonstrated high-quality writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
· Experience working with print design software (flyers, postcards, business cards, trifold brochures, booklets, etc.).
· Basic photography and videography skills.
· Well organized, detail oriented, creative, and self-motivated with a proven ability to work independently on projects or work products that will be published to the public.
· Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact closely as a team player.
· Confident public speaker capable of delivering a persuasive message.
· Experience with Wix web design platform and Adobe design products is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a worker to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The worker must possess the mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the worker is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear. The worker is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, and stoop or kneel. The worker is required to use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, telephone, and other office equipment. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as viewing a computer screen, reading, and preparing and analyzing documents. Light to moderate lifting may be required. Regular, predictable attendance is required.
