SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, the Accounting Manager leads finance operations including accounting and reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, budgeting and cash management. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not strictly limited to, the following:

 

  • Provides supervision of a team of three accountants and an AP/AR Specialist.

  • Oversees accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems for compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Oversees set up of accounting, requisition and inventory, and point of sale systems.

  • Supervises the production of financial reporting packages and presents results to the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.

  • Manages program and grant accounting to ensure proper accounting treatment, monitors grant budgets vs actual spending, and provides financial reporting information for grant reports.

  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, local, corporate, and other taxes.

  • Manages the completion of the annual audits and tax reporting requirements.

  • Coordinates the annual operating budget process.

  • Manages the payroll system and processes including:

    • Coordinating and troubleshooting problems with the payroll service provider.

    • Reviewing bi-weekly payroll processing.

    • Ensuring compliance with relevant tax laws.

    • Working with human resources to ensure compliance with relevant employment laws and regulations pertaining to payroll and timekeeping.

    • Overseeing reconciliation of payroll related accounts with the general ledger.

    • Calculating and maintaining fringe and allocation rates; overseeing maintenance of cost centers and charge rates in the payroll system for labor allocations.

  • Assists the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer in maintaining relationships with third-party service providers, as applicable.

  • Identifies deficiencies in internal controls and develops new procedures as necessary.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Accounting Manager supervises the Accountants and the Accounts Payable Specialist.

 

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a minimum of 5 years previous related experience; experience in a non-profit environment preferred.  CPA is a plus. Knowledge of accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite applications, especially Excel, is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a worker to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The worker must possess the mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the worker is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear. The worker is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, and stoop or kneel. The worker is required to use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, telephone, and other office equipment. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as viewing a computer screen, reading, and preparing and analyzing documents.  Light to moderate lifting may be required. Regular, predictable attendance is required.
