Bill Strickland of Manchester Bidwell Goes On Demand with Comcast

October 2nd, 2006

(PITTSBURGH) - Youth, Creativity and Community- Go one on one with Bill Strickland, President and CEO of Manchester Bidwell Corporation, exclusively on Comcast ON DEMAND for what will be an enlightening discussion about artistic practice and insight as his creative philosophy as a ceramic artist is uncovered. Learn more about Strickland and how he turned his personal creative passion into a world renowned art center, Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild.

Go to Comcast ON DEMAND in the “Your Town” folder under Pittsburgh Arts and to Manchester Guild to learn about how Strickland established Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild in 1968 to help combat the effects of economic and social devastation experienced by the youth of his inner-city Pittsburgh neighborhood. Just as the introduction to ceramics helped to change the course of his life, Strickland hoped art would inspire similar change in his community. From its original location in a residential row house, Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild initially offered informal ceramics classes and a small exhibition space. Now located in a facility designed by a student of Frank Lloyd Wright, Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild’s MCG Youth program annually provides school-day and after-school art programs to thousands of Pittsburgh youth.

The partnership between Comcast and Manchester Bidwell Corporation is a prime example of how local companies can partner with community-based organizations to work together and create opportunities to enhance arts education and appreciation.
