Orchids are Blooming in Manchester

Pittsburgh, PA - Saturday, June 7, 2003, 6:30pm, Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild and Bidwell Training Center will celebrate the realization of a dream. Phalaenopsis orchids are blooming at its new 40,000 square foot production greenhouse. A spectacular black- tie Gala Celebration, “A Legacy of Inspiration” will mark the dedication of The Drew Mathieson Center for Horticultural and Agricultural Technology. The Center will offer enrichment and education in the plant sciences to South Western Pennsylvania residents, public school students and unemployed and under-employed adults.

The legacy of Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild and Bidwell Training Center is rich with achievement. Drew Mathieson’s legacy, as philanthropist, mentor, conservationist, civic leader and friend Manchester-Bidwell will be celebrated on this special evening. The celebration begins at 6:30pm and includes a cocktail reception, the dedication of the Drew Mathieson Center, a ribbon cutting ceremony and a grand feast with music by the Nick Dialoiso Orchestra.

Mrs. Seward Prosser Mellon, is the Honorary Chair of the event. The host committee and guest list are a who’s who of Pittsburgh’s corporate, political and cultural leaders and includes The Honorable & Mrs. James C. Roddey, The Honorable Sam Smith and The Honorable Melissa Hart. Over 30 sponsors representing the public and private sectors are backing this exciting event and over $400,000 has been raised to date. All proceeds benefit the programs and operations of Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild and Bidwell Training Center.
