About

Lauren Beth Indovina

Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild graduate

When Lauren Indovina was in high school, she had some inspiring teachers who were integral to her growth as a young person passionate about the arts and design. These teachers were strong voices in the Pittsburgh arts community, and spoke highly of Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild, suggesting that she look into their programs.

Developing Her Skills at MCG

“It was my junior year at The Ellis School and I was a diehard ceramics student, constantly in the studio. When visiting artist Wes Anderson came to Manchester to give workshops, my ceramics teacher jumped at the opportunity to sign me up. Sure enough, these workshops had a profound influence on my work that year, some of which was used as portfolio material for my application to the Governors School for the Arts. At the Governors School, I found myself reflecting on many experiences I had at MCG; the fantastic support from the teachers and getting my hands on red clay, which I made an effort to work with any chance I could.”

A Rhode Island School of Design Graduate

Lauren is a recent college graduate from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) where she majored in Film, Animation and Video, and concentrated in Art History. After graduating from RISD, she was recruited by Pixar Studios and Blue Sky Studios to potentially work on art direction. She is in the process of finding the right opportunity and going to work.

“Experiences like the ones offered at Manchester gave me an opportunity to thrive in the arts and gain exposure to the Pittsburgh arts community as well. I can say confidently that all participants in the workshops were tremendously inspiring, energetic, and truly invested in what they were doing. These people are positive sources who fuel students to develop their passions in art and design.”

MCG's Influence on Lauren's Studies and Herself

Lauren feels that the most immediate value she gained from her experiences at MCG is a trust in her voice as an artist and designer.

“With self-confidence, you can do anything. Before I attended Manchester, I was an uncomfortable16-year-old with a developing passion for art and design. After my experiences at MCG, a bit of that self-consciousness disappeared, and my energy was focused on the arts rather than on the problems I had with myself. Soon, it didn’t matter how I felt about myself, but what I did with myself. Manchester’s programs aid the young artist in developing a passion for art and design and a more mature self-awareness.”

In retrospect, what is important to Lauren about her experience is not that she studied Film and Animation but what led to her studies in this field; her experiences as a young person in a city that fueled her with energy and opportunities.

“I have confidence that programs such as the ones offered at Manchester are the foremost foundations for any person interested in pursuing their passions in art and design.”
