Instructor, Medical Major (BTC)

SUMMARY
Instructs adult students of the Medical Training Programs in subject areas specific to each program including Medical Terminology, Human Anatomy and Physiology, Basic and/or Advanced Mathematics, Microsoft Word, Excel, Medical Software Applications (including Medisoft and Pharmacy Rx), Keyboarding, Coding (HCPCS, ICD-9, CPT-4 and Revenue), Insurance Claims Processing, English, Communications, Health Unit Coordinating, and Pharmacology, in accordance with department of education licensing regulations, accreditation standards, industry regulations and job market demands.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Essential duties and responsibilities include, and are not strictly limited to, the following:

  • Develop class work and instruction in accordance with course textbooks, syllabi, and outlines as approved by Director.
  • Stay abreast of and incorporate into instruction, changes and developments affecting areas of instruction. This may be accomplished through professional memberships, contacts in field, publications, and, when appropriate, coursework.
  • Maintain accurate records of performance, evaluation, and attendance on each class taught at all times.
  • Evaluate student progress and provide feedback in a timely manner. Provide written feedback at least once a week including tests, assignments, and projects.
  • Assist in achieving educational goals of each student in each training program, to include providing small group or individual remedial instruction as required when time permits.
  • Support and enhance a "team effort" in instructional development and delivery.
  • Assist students in problem resolution by referring to student advisor, Director, or outside agency as necessary.
  • Abide by all rules, regulations, and policies as determined by Bidwell Training Center, Inc.
  • Maintain neat and orderly classrooms; report in writing needed repairs, additional equipment and supplies required to Director.
  • Assist in interview and selection of prospective students as scheduled by Director.
  • Accompany Director on extern site visits when necessary; attend subject matter advisory committee meetings.
  • Maintains a professional instructor-student relationship, including: establishing and maintaining positive student interaction; restricting classroom time to relevant, subject-related information; providing non-discriminate, fair and equal treatment of all students; being on time and prepared for each class as scheduled; responding to student questions in a calm, clear and concise fashion; providing a non-threatening environment conducive to learning and positive self esteem.
  • Perform other duties as needed.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
There are no supervisory responsibilities associated with this position.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate Degree in related field with at least three years experience in said field required. Baccalaureate Degree preferred. Prior experience teaching or training adults preferred. Must be proficient in preparing and presenting instruction in at least four of the following subject areas: Medical Terminology, Human Anatomy and Physiology, Basic and/or Advanced Mathematics, Microsoft Word, Excel, Medical Software Applications (including Medisoft and Pharmacy Rx), Keyboarding, Coding (HCPCS, ICD-9, CPT-4 and Revenue), Insurance Claims Processing, English, Communications, Health Unit Coordinating, and Pharmacology.
